For me, as the son of a British soldier, Queen Elizabeth II was more than just the representative of a European royal family. She was a rock in turbulent times. She lived by values that are also important to me and upheld a centuries-old tradition that is unique in the world. A tradition of which I am very proud and to which I still feel deeply connected. The Queen has been a part of my life, and that of most other people, for a lifetime. Even two days before her death, she was still carrying out engagements and fulfilling her duties. After 70 years on the throne, during which she outlived dozens of prime ministers, chancellors, US presidents, and even some dictators, she has earned her rest and peace—by the side of her beloved husband, Philip. In the end, there is only one thing left to say: Thank you! Thank you for everything.
